On this page, you will find...
Although there is no data collected on the number of suicides by Gypsy, Roma or Traveller people in the UK, we hear about these tragedies every day and we know there is a mental health crisis.
If you are worried about someone you know...
- Don’t be frightened to ask the question: Are you thinking about suicide? Do you have a plan?
- Allow them to speak without sharing your own experience (active listening)
- Avoid saying things like “everything is going to be okay”, and instead ask them how you can help.
- Start a conversation and say things like “you don’t seem yourself” and “you seem really quiet lately, is everything okay?”
- Share with them information about support services (Samaritans, church, GP, charities).
