Community support

When working together, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller women can develop a stronger collective voice.

Over the years, we have organised movie screenings, beauty sessions, advocacy courses and other workshops for Gypsies, Roma and Travellers to come together. From previous peer support groups, we have created videos and shared our life experiences.

What events would you like to see? If you’re interested in blog writing or activism, get in touch with us women@travellermovement.org.uk

Below are Gypsy and Traveller-led helplines for the community:

The Traveller Movement domestic abuse helpline is run by Irish Travellers.
One Call Away is a mental health helpline run by Romany Gypsies.

Listen to LGBT Travellers' Stories

From previous peer support groups, we have created videos and shared our life experiences. The one below focuses on the lives of LGBT Travellers.

Stop Shaming!

Over the past few years, we have seen many online ‘Traveller shame pages’ and ‘Gypsy shame pages’ that aim to publicly humiliate other members of their own community. We are finding support services and educating them on the issues of shame, scandal and discrimination.
